Meet the “A” in J.A. Laub Photography

Abby Laub loves sharing stories through words and photographs. She has taken pictures her entire life and earned a degree in journalism from Palm Beach Atlantic University in West Palm Beach, Fla. Abby is a big fan of traveling, nature and the great outdoors, and takes her camera with her on many family trips. She and her identical twin sister, Guinevere, were born in upstate New York, along with their three other siblings. Growing up, Abby was a competitive athlete (gymnastics, basketball, tennis), played the trumpet for 15 years, and loved to read and write. She often snuck books under her desk at school and asked her teachers for extra credit writing projects. Abby and Jeff Laub have been married since December 2005. They met in Colorado and now live in Lexington, Ky., with their two children. They can usually be found walking or biking around their neighborhood.

More about Abby.....

Favorite color: Red

First camera: My first “real camera” was a beautiful Nikon film SLR that Jeff surprised me with on a photo scavenger hunt to the top of a mountain in Colorado. He really did awesome! His friend sat there for several hours guarding it until we made it up the trail.

Best lighting: Winter! I love shooting outside on cold sunny winter days. The lighting is magnificent and totally underrated! I always encourage my clients to brave the cold and shoot in the winter.

Can't-do-without equipment: My Think Tank camera bags. You can’t have good gear without even better bags to go anyplace you need to go. They’re indestructible and so versatile.

Favorite hobbies: Hiking, camping and paddling – with the whole family or no kids. Jeff and I also have been known to get into some Dr. Mario battles after the kids go to bed!

Gallup strengths: Focus, Achiever, Maximizer, Arranger, Intellection

My photography philosophy: It’s not about me. I want you to be happy. I’m taking pictures for you.

Worst photography moment: I dropped a lens and broke it at last year's Midsummer Night's Run in Lexington. It was the first time in 12-plus years that I ever did that and it was as terrible as it sounds! I'm still mad about it.

Best photography moment: There are too many to remember! Anything that gets me outside and on an adventure. I've lugged my gear all over the world and all over Kentucky - from wading in rivers to standing on top of tractors and high dives to riding on ziplines to following Supreme Court justices around for the weekend and biking around with a camera in the basket to track runners.
